A Local Firm with National Resources
Skoler Abbott is charter member of the Worklaw® Network, a national network of law firms that devote their entire practice to representing management in all facets of labor and employment law.
Founded in 1989, the Worklaw® Network includes firms with some of the most prominent management employment specialists in the country. It was established to provide members with a forum in which to exchange information on legal and practice issues in order to provide members’ clients with the most up-to-date and knowledgeable representation in the country. Membership in the Worklaw® Network, which maintains rigorous recruiting standards, is a virtual “seal of approval,” indicative of a firm’s expertise and quality.
There are Worklaw® Network member firms from coast to coast, providing access to over 300 experienced labor and employment lawyers. Member firms share information and expertise with other firms located throughout the country through electronic database information and daily communication on difficult and timely labor and employment issues. Keeping Clients Out of Court
At Skoler Abbott, we believe that in many cases, careful employment practices can lessen the likelihood of employment litigation or, at the very least, improve the likelihood of success.
To that end, we offer counseling and training in a wide variety of employment-related areas, including:
- Sexual and other unlawful harassment
- Wage and hour laws
- Compliance with the ADA, FMLA, and Workers’ Compensation law
- Proper documentation
- Lawful hiring, firing, and disciplining of employees
In addition, the firm develops and reviews company policies, procedures, employee handbooks, affirmative action plans and other company documents; conducts formal audits of personnel practices; and assists in planning for reductions-in-force or layoffs, with emphasis on employers’ obligations under the WARN Act, drafting separation agreements and releases, and developing voluntary separation/early retirement programs.
We believe that a prompt answer to a pressing problem can often prevent costly litigation, so when our clients have employment concerns, we make those concerns a top priority.
The firm routinely provides clients with alerts about significant employment law developments through our quarterly newsletter and e-mail alerts. We write and edit the Massachusetts Employment Law Letter, one of the best-read employment law newsletters in the country, on behalf of Business and Legal Resources. The firm also publishes a blog that discusses news and developments in labor and employment law.
As a result of our special expertise and clear, straightforward communication style, our attorneys are frequent speakers before employers’ associations and personnel groups, as well as before bar associations and at Continuing Legal Education programs. Skoler Abbott also provides training to supervisors, employees and HR professionals in all of its practice areas.
