Breakfast Briefing: Wage and Hour Update: Recent Developments and Hot Topics

Employers across the United States are being targeted by a wave of collective, class, and individual actions asserting a wide variety of claims under the Fair Labor Standards Act and state wage and hour laws.  The Department of Labor has also proposed a regulation that would require employers to prepare an annual written statement for employees explaining why they are classified as exempt. Skoler Abbott attorneys will share their experiences in defending wage and hour lawsuits and discuss strategies for avoiding these disputes. The briefing will highlight:

  • Recent significant wage and hour decisions, including the United States Supreme Court decision addressing important working time issues
  • Wage and hour audits and exemption exercises
  • Misclassification risks presented by the Affordable Care Act
  • Litigating wage and hour disputes – collective actions, class actions, and individual claims
