Reminder: Parental Leave Law Goes Into Effect April 7, 2015

The amendments to the Massachusetts Maternity Leave Act become effective 90 days after enactment, which means that on April 7, Massachusetts employers must have a Parental Leave Policy and must also post information for their employees about their rights under the Act. The Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination has created a Fact Sheet, which is available at This fact sheet could serve as a poster until the MCAD or Attorney General’s Office comes out with a more formal poster. Remember that Parental Leave is now available for the birth or adoption of a child and also for the placement of a child pursuant to a court order. The MCAD’s Fact Sheet does not include that important fact, so you should not be using the Fact Sheet as your policy.
