Skoler, Abbott & Presser Attorneys to Present at 2013 Master Class in Wage and Hour and Overtime Compliance

Over the last several years, more than 23,000 wage and hour complaints were registered against employers. Over 222,000 employees recovered back wages through federal enforcement action. And employers paid out $1.4 billion to settle wage and hour division charges, with Staples alone paying a whopping $24 million to settle a misclassification dispute involving assistant store managers.

Figures like these could keep employers up all night, but should instead send them racing to sign up for the 2013 Wage and Hour Master Class: The Advanced Interactive Workshop for Massachusetts Employers, taking place on Thursday, June 20, 2013, at the Sheraton Commander Hotel, 16 Garden Street in Cambridge, MA; and on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at the Sheraton Springfield Monarch Place Hotel, One Monarch Place in Springfield, MA.

Presenters at the fast-paced, one-day program will be employment experts Timothy F. Murphy and John S. Gannon of Skoler, Abbott & Presser, P.C. They will tackle the very latest, most confusing, and most complicated areas of the Fair Labor and Standards Act (FLSA), including:

  • Who is and isn’t covered by the main exemptions to the FLSA
  • Which workplace activities are and are not compensable in light of recent court decisions
  • Overtime avoidance techniques that work legally — and those that backfire
  • How to handle bonuses, commissions, and tips
  • Areas of special interest to federal and state labor department watchdogs during wage/hour audits
  • Why FLSA retaliation lawsuits are exploding, and what employers can do to steer clear
  • And much more.

Attendees will be encouraged to ask questions, present their own situations for discussion, and interact with both the speakers and colleagues.

Registration and a continental breakfast are scheduled for 7:30 a.m. The program will begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude at 4:30 p.m. There will be morning and afternoon breaks; registrants will be on their own for lunch.

The seminar fee is $497 for the first attendee and $397 per additional attendee. Those wishing to attend may register by calling 800-274-6774; by emailing; or by going online to
